Happy New Year!

Happy 2010!!
I hope you all managed to find fun ways to celebrate ringing in the new decade! I had such a great month in December with my students as there was so
much going on in the way of holiday celebrations. The primary students at St. Peter's performed a Nativity play, we had a "teacher's serve the students X-mas lunch", parties with cookie baking and decorating, and the teacher's performed a pantomime of Snow White for the entire school. Guess who was Snow White...me! I had a good time and it ended up snowing just before the break to make it feel even more festive! I flew home to Nova Scotia for a week to see my family and friends for Christmas which was fabulous but flew by way too quickly. I was back in London for New Year's Eve and spent the night of the 31st with friends at a boat party on the Thames! I got to see all the sights along the river lit up and then we stopped by the London Eye and Big Ben to watch the fireworks which were fantastic!! It was all very magical. I have settled back into the routines of school again and we are doing a fun all school unit on Space. I hope you all had a terrific break and are enjoying the first weeks of 2010! Have I told you about the views of beautiful sunrises I get from my kitchen window? I've included a pic of the pink morning sky!

  1. HEY MS. HIRSCH!!
It's Ethan from Grade 4! I have not spoken to you for more then 3 years! I have to tell you ho I got this website so here I go: I have to write this essay for this school I wanted to get into called Etobicoke School of the Arts, and the subject was My favorite School subject. So I wrote until I had to give an example of a special time in my school life so I chose that party that you and the class threw for me. I am really sorry, my mind switched from Toronto mode to Ottawa mode so I forgot you name. I went to the Brown School Directory and you were not listed. I became curious and I went to the "News" section and it said that you transferred schools to Canterbury England and I yelled out loud: "HOLY CRAP! MOM, AARON MS. HIRSCH SWITCHED SCHOOLS!!!" They were really surprised and we are very proud of you. I think of Brown School everyday and my memories always bring me back to Grade 4. I know it may seem late but Happy New Year!
    Will Post again soon,
    Ethan.
P.S. I love my middle school and I am now an A student, and I am now playing the clarinet just like my grandfather!

  2. Wow!
Ethan it is so wonderful to hear from you! I am glad you found my blog about my time in England. I am on a one year teaching exchange through the Toronto District School Board and I am teaching at a really great school in Canterbury. It is a truly exciting adventure and the year is just flying by. I feel very lucky to be in such a beautiful and historic city!
I use this blog to keep parents, students and teachers at Brown up to date on what I am doing over here. I am learning lots and the traveling is very fantastic. I am off to Ireland next month!
I am thrilled to hear that you have such fond memories of Grade 4! And it is always lovely to hear from old students about what they are doing. It is so wonderful that life in Ottawa is going so well for you, that you are achieving excellent grades and enjoying music and art! Keep me posted on your school applications. Best of luck! And guess who else used to play the clarinet....me!!
    Happy new year!!

  3. Hi again!

My audition for the school I want to go into was actually 2 days ago! It went really well and the judges said something really nice to me! They said: "You have only been playing with a private tutor for only 4 months, right? Me: "Yes." Them: "Well how come someone with so much talent and potential have been playing for that amount of time?" Me: "Um gfj.ajkjal;kjfv". Them "Now, were is your blue sheet?" Me: " jjfkdjja;lkjdfdf". So all in all I was really shocked when that happend, and guess who I saw there! Emily B.! I didn't say anything because I wasn't sure it was her, but then I was sure of it! I will post a comment later today because I have work to do, sorry!
    Ethan.
